Get to Know Us

We're a small online business based that was started as a way to help our young family members learn business skills.

We are working to create sustainable practices that align with ecological stewardship, and we've learned there is a lot of greenwashing in the clothing industry. We ensure our clothing suppliers and production partners have sustainable and ethical business practice, and we have built a business model that is intended to reduce waste, reduce exposure to micro plastics, and support Canadian companies and suppliers.

Our Eco-Friendly Approach

We are producing most of the "Our Beaver is Not up For Grabs"collection in B.C. and are making to order. For many of our other products, we've partnered with some leading direct to garment (DTG) and Direct to Film (DTF) print-on-demand companies to bring you stylish, sustainable fashion that is made to order. This collaboration allows us to:

  • Reduce waste by producing items only when ordered
  • Minimize carbon emissions through local production and shipping
  • Support regional economies whenever possible.

We ensure our production partners and suppliers are committed to sustainable, fair and ethical production and business practices. The clothing we use is made from Canadian suppliers whenever possible, and are printed in Canadian production hubs, most often in Quebec. We are in the midst of switching to local Canadian companies rather than continuing with the larger internationally based print-partner because on rare occasions the shirts get printed in the US or elsewhere.

We do our best to ensure that the clothing we are using for our prints is Canadian made when possible, although we have sourced some fantastic hoodies that are made in Mexico.

For our locally printed artisan market stock, we proudly use:

  • Canadian-made bamboo/ray  from Jericho Clothing in Ontario: Soft, sustainable, and naturally moisture-wicking
  • Canadian-made cotton clothing, prioritizing fabrics and suppliers that used ethically sourced products that are produces with sustainability in mind. We use shirts from Gildan (Montreal) and the Good Tee (Ontario)

We utilize direct-to-film (DTF) printing for our local small-batch designs, ensuring:

  • Vibrant, long-lasting prints on various materials
  • Minimal waste and enhanced production flexibility
  • High-quality, durable designs that stand the test of time

Making Waves for Ocean Conservation

Starting in July 2024, every $60 spent will help remove 1 pound of garbage from our oceans, thanks to our partnership with Ecodrive|4Ocean. In May 2025, we committed to removing 25 lbs per month on top of purchase based contributions.

Why "Rowantree"?

Our family are recent settlers from Ireland and Scotland and have a deep reverence for the land that we now call home and for the land  that our grandparents left behind.. The Rowan Tree, known as the Tree of Life in Celtic mythology, symbolizes courage, wisdom, and resilience. It represents the interconnectedness of all living things—a perfect embodiment of our mission to create fashion that respects people and planet and gives back.
